What is Recreational Therapy Anyway?

This is popular question!  Here's a couple of different descriptions...


Recreational Therapy, simply stated, is a form of treatment which utilizes functional activities to achieve a desired outcome. Through using a person’s existing skills and interests, Recreational Therapy addresses the goals of the person in a unique way. Recreational Therapy also focuses on facilitating the development of new skills for daily living and community functioning.

Recreational Therapy is a professional service directed
towards people with a variety of disabilities.  Recreational
Therapy helps people achieve their goals through creating
and designing a program plan for each individual. Program
plans may consist of improving and increasing gross motor,
fine motor, cognitive, sensory, emotional, social, skills
and abilities.
